My name is Carrie Carl and I teach 6th grade science at Hastings Middle School.  I have 17 animals in my classroom that we use to observe, collect data on, study their characteristics, and learn responsibility of caring for these animals.  These animals are part of our ecosystem unit and we look at their specific habitats.  These animals all need food, bedding, heat lamp bulbs, filters, pumps, tanks/ cages, and miscellaneous supplies that may come up.  Students take turns taking care of the animals and learning about their pet.  These students then can have a chance to take the animals home during the summer to continue their learning and show their responsibility of taking care of the pets.  Students just love this opportunity, and they learn so much throughout the year. 

This is a yearlong project that needs constant supplies, and any donations would really help ensure this program keeps going.  I currently rely on a grant here and there to help keep the animals fed.  I usually shop for deals at TSC, Farm and Home, PetSmart, Meijer, and Pet Supplies Plus.  Any gift cards to these places would help buy the pets what they need and deserve.  In addition, if you have any supplies that you currently do not need, we will welcome those items too!!  Cleaning supplies like paper towels, Windex, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, air fresheners, and dawn dish soap are always needed!!  Thank you so much.
