Hastings Area School System will see a changing of the guard at its Career Technical Education (CTE) program, as Clayton Powell has been named the district’s next Director of Career Technical Education, effective for the upcoming school year.
Powell, who currently serves as Assistant Principal at Hastings High School, will step into the role following the retirement of long-time director Ed Domke.
The district also expressed its deep appreciation to Ed Domke for his decades of dedicated service. Under his leadership, the CTE program has grown and evolved, providing valuable pathways for students to explore careers and develop real-world skills.
The expansive CTE program at Hastings High School features courses that prime students for careers in fields that include engineering, construction and trades, culinary arts, business and agriculture.
"The district cannot thank Ed Domke enough for his vision and leadership in growing our CTE programs," Superintendent Dr. Nick Damico said. "His passion for equipping all students with the skills necessary to excel after high school is unmatched. Thanks in large part to Mr. Domke, the Hastings Area School System is well positioned to continue leading in this area well into the future."
"We are also excited that a familiar face will be taking over the position — Mr. Clayton Powell," Damico added. "Mr. Powell is deeply dedicated to HASS and brings a strong background in CTE, having served as an auto shop teacher and Dean of Students at the Kent ISD Career Tech Center."
