BPA: There will be a MS BPA meeting twice this week:

Tuesday, 01/18 & Thursday, 01/20

3 - 4 PM in the 6th Grade Science Lab

NOTE:  Pre-Submitted Events are DUE FRIDAY, 01/21/2022!!!

 

MASH:  Meaningful After School Help will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:05 to 4:05. This is a great opportunity to get caught up on homework and missing assignments. See the office if you have questions. 


Magazines:  Mrs. Lucas and Ms. Eggers are looking for fairly current kid friendly magazines.  If you have any, especially with lots of pictures, you would like to donate we would be happy to take them!


Attention Snowboarders and skiers:   There is still time to sign up for the ski club!  The ski club trip for last week, 1/14/22, was canceled due to low bus numbers. If you signed up for that trip, we will roll over your money to this week. If you signed up, but cannot go next week, please see Mrs. Shults or Mrs. Batenburg for a refund. 


Athletics: 

Photos:  If you have pictures you have taken at HMS sporting events, we would welcome them for yearbook consideration! We are especially in need of volleyball pictures.  Please send them to: Karleen.birman@hassk12.org  Thank you!


Competitive Cheer: The HMS competitive cheer team placed 2nd in their division this past Saturday at the Perry Winter Classic. Good job gals, super proud of the hard work you are putting in!


Wrestling: Practice continues today, after school until 5pm You must have a physical on file before you can participate. First meet will be Saturday, January 22 at the Galesburg Augusta Invitational.  Bus departure is planned for 7:00 a.m. 


Girls Basketball:  Practice continues today after school until 5pm.  Make sure you have a physical on file!  The first games will be today.  8th grade A team only is traveling to Pennfield with departure planned for 3:20.  The game will be played at 4:30pmBe. 7th grade is home, A team only will play.  Games begin at 4:30 pm. 

 

Hastings Hardball & Softball Club: Sign-ups are here! Recruiting all 6th - 8th grade boys and girls interested in playing baseball and softball this spring. Boys' and girls' skills clinics will be held February 26 & 27, and assessments will be March 19 & 20. Postcards are available in the office with links to more information.


HPAC EVENTS:  The Friends of HPAC along with the Thornapple Apple Arts Council are excited to present four special events this year in the Hastings Performing Arts Center!  These events have been made possible by the generosity of the DeCamp Family Foundation.

Feb. 18 - Edye Evans Hyde:  West Michigan's First Lady of Song with the Terry Lower Trio

April 29 -  Jazz and Pop Artist Aubry Logan brought to you by Mark & Margaret Christensen and the Dempsey Foundation

Updated Covid-19 Guidelines as of 1/11/22: 

Contract Tracing & Quarantine 

  • All persons testing positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 5 days. (day “0” is day symptoms began or test was taken if no symptoms)
  • If symptoms have improved or you continue to have no symptoms you may return to school while wearing a mask for days 6-10.
  • Persons unwilling to wear a mask must isolate for 10 days.
  • Close contacts do not need to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated with documentation or had confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days.
  • Close contacts who are unvaccinated or have not had COVID in the past 90 days can (a) quarantine for 10 days, (b) home quarantine for days 1-5 AND “Mask to Stay” for days 6-10, (c) test every other day for days 1-6 AND mask for days 1-10
  • COVID 19 testing will not be required for students to return to school after an illness.

Symptom Monitoring

During days 0-10 following exposure:

  • Watch for symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, or other COVID-19 symptoms
  • If symptoms develop, get tested immediately and isolate until receiving test results.  If the test is positive, then follow isolation recommendations.
  • For the full 10 days after last exposure, avoid people who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease, and nursing homes, and other high-risk settings

 

Yearbooks: Yearbooks are now on sale! The deadline for personalization is February 1!

Books can be ordered for $24 or personalized for $25. Return order form with cash or check made payable to Hastings Middle School. Books can also be ordered online at inter-state.com/order with code 63951S. All orders are due March 25, 2022.

 

School Pictures:   Pictures taken on retake day can be ordered online at Inter-state.com/order using code: 61967TA.  If you are interested in purchasing pictures from the original picture day,  you still can.  Go online to Inter-state.com/order and use code: 59447CB.


Hand 2 Hand: Hand 2 Hand is a program which helps provide food for the weekends and is intended for families who may be experiencing financial hardship. Parent permission is required to participate.  If you would like to sign-up for Hand 2 Hand, please stop by the office or contact Mrs. Harris to get a permission slip.


Counseling Department: We are offering small groups to teach students skills that they need to be successful at school and in life! Some of the topics are Self-Esteem, Emotional Regulation, Organization Skills, Grief, & Social Skills and relationships. If you would like your student to participate, please fill out this form to indicate interest. There is limited room but we will offer new groups every marking period. Parent permission will be needed for participation.
